About:
"Beag ach fiochmar" - Small but fierce was adapted as the motto of the the Fighter Squadron when it formed on the 1st of January 1939.

The Gladiator entered Irish service in March 1938. Four aircraft were delivered (No.23-26) and were initially assigned the Army Co-operation Squadron and from 1/1/1939, the Fighter Squadron. These were the first true fighter aircraft used by the Air Corps since the Martinsyde F.4 Buzzards in the twenties.
